United Nations Drafting Resolution for Safe Use of AI

The US is leading the first United Nations resolution about Artificial Intelligence. This resolution could provide a framework for the 193 members of the UN to draft their own resolutions over the safe use and control of AI technology proliferation while helping them to achieve the development goals for 2030, according to news agencies.

According to reports, some 120 member states of the UN have already submitted their suggestions over the use and control of AI to the world body. Others are likely to provide their input over the coming days.

The world is awaiting a resolution on AI to be passed by the European Union, which is slated to be issued soon. Other countries working on AI resolutions include India and China where local startups are developing indigenous versions of artificial intelligence-based solutions.

AI experts averred that such resolutions have become extremely important due to the widespread proliferation of artificial intelligence tools and their misuse by various entities to create Deepfake videos and audio, morphed photos and other objectionable content.

Regulators in the US have detected several morphed images of Donald Trump. Voters in the US trying to find details were also misled by AI-driven chatbots and other resources. There are fears that unscrupulous elements could try and influence elections in key democracies worldwide using AI-based resources.
